Prayagraj News: Contempt of Allahabad High Court proved costly for Special Secretary Welfare Department Rajneesh Chandra. In this case, the court sentenced the Special Secretary to remain in custody till the hearing of the court and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000. After the court order, Special Secretary Rajneesh Chandra was immediately taken into custody and remained in custody as punishment throughout the day as long as the court proceedings continued.
Justice Salil Kumar Rai gave this order while hearing the petition of petitioner Suman Devi. Suman Devi is an assistant teacher in Dr. BR Ambedkar Shiksha Sadan, Fatehpur. This school is run by the Social Welfare Department. The petitioner had taken leave in April 2022. After retiring in the middle of the session, he applied for the benefit of the session as per rules but the department refused.
Punishment given in contempt case
After refusal from the department, Suman Devi filed a petition in the High Court. While the petition was pending in the High Court, he was given session benefits by the Social Welfare Department and instructions were given to join the school. After which the petitioner joined on 21 January 2023. But his salary from April 2022 to January 2023 was not paid.
The High Court ordered the Social Welfare Department to release the teacher’s salary, but despite the court’s order, Special Secretary Rajneesh Chandra, while passing the order, said that since the petitioner did not do any work during this period, she is not entitled to the salary. After which the petitioner again filed a petition regarding contempt of the High Court order. The court also considered it as contempt and summoned the Special Secretary.
After the court notice, Rajneesh Chandra apologized in his affidavit and said that the court order has been followed. But the court did not agree with his explanation, after which the court sentenced him to be detained till the hearing of the court.
