Shaheed Bhagat Singh: Pakistan’s Punjab government on Friday sought more time from the High Court on the issue of naming Shadman Chowk after freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Lahore High Court Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was hearing a petition by ‘Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan’ during this time.
According to news agency PTI (language), the petition sought contempt action against three top officials of the provincial and district government for not following the court order to rename Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh.
High Court had given this order
In fact, in the year 2018, the High Court had ordered the Punjab government to name Shadman Chowk in Lahore after Bhagat Singh. The petition will be heard on this day
Petitioner’s lawyer Khalid Jama Kakar argued that there has already been a lot of delay in this matter. High Court Advocate General Imran Khan Accepted the plea and adjourned the hearing till June 7.
