Manipur Violence 2023: The Central Government has approved a relief package of Rs 101.75 crore for the displaced people in violence-hit Manipur following the instructions of Home Minister Amit Shah. State Government’s Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh gave this information on Thursday (June 8).
Kuldeep Singh also said that the situation in Manipur is peaceful and under control. There has been no incident of violence in the state in the last 48 hours. He said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved a relief package to provide relief to the displaced in Manipur. During his recent visit to Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the state government to send a request to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a relief package for the displaced people.
Announcement of relaxation in curfew
In Manipur, 27 arms, 245 cartridges and 41 bombs have been recovered in the last 24 hours in Porompat police station area of Imphal East district, while one weapon and two bombs have been recovered from Bishnupur district of the state. The security advisor said that a total of 896 weapons, 11,763 cartridges and 200 bombs of various types have been recovered so far. Curfew has been announced to be relaxed for 12 hours in five districts of the valley and from 10 hours to eight hours in the neighboring hill districts. At the same time, curfew is not applicable in six hill districts.
Singh said that movement of essential goods has been ensured on National Highway-37. On the other hand, 294 empty vehicles have left for Jiribam from Imphal on Thursday. A total of 220 loaded vehicles have left from Noni and 198 loaded tankers and trucks have left from Jiribam. Singh said senior officers have visited sensitive areas and are camping there. Strict security arrangements have been made in all sensitive areas.

Besides, joint teams of state and central forces have intensified search operations in several parts of the state, the official said. Ministers and MLAs of Manipur are visiting many areas of the state. And appealing to the public and civil society organizations to restore peace and normalcy. Singh said that the security forces are also holding meetings with civil society organizations and village heads and are also patrolling.
A ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts of Manipur to protest against the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status by the Meitei community. After which caste violence took place for the first time in the state on May 3. So far, about 100 people have died in the violence and more than 300 people have been injured.
