Scientists discovered another continent, once inhabited by 5 lakh people

Australia New Continent: Scientists have discovered a continent lost in the ocean, millions of people used to live here 6 thousand years ago. This continent was immersed in the Pacific Ocean in a deluge. Scientists believe that the original inhabitants of Australia first reached Australia from this continent, which has been researched for many years. About 70 thousand years ago, human population reached the Australian continent from South-East Asia. These were the people who are called the original inhabitants of modern Australia. The constant wonder about this migration was how much time it took to complete it and what routes might have been taken. Information about this has been found in a new research. Scientists also got information about a lost continent.

Separated from Australia 6 thousand years ago
A research was published in Nature Communications Journal on 23 April. It was said that 70 thousand years ago, when the Earth was in the middle of the last Ice Age, there was a large area named Sahul. There was a drop in sea level due to the flood. During this period, Australia was connected to Papua New Guinea in the north and Tasmania in the south. After the Ice Age, the temperature increased and due to the rise in sea level the middle part got submerged in water. During this time the mainland of Australia became separated. New Guinea was separated from Australia about 8000 years ago, while Tasmania was separated from Australia about 6 thousand years ago.

Estimated to be 5 lakh people
The research included possible migration routes from Southeast Asia to Australia. Professor Tristan Sayles, from the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney, said that these routes ran along the coastline and directly through the interior of the continent, passing through major rivers and waterfalls. During migration, humans moved at a rate of 1.15 kilometers every year. The authors of the study have explored the possibility of human presence in Sahul. Five lakh people may have once lived on the northern shelf of ‘Sahul’ which is currently submerged under water.
