Death penalty for Drug Trafficking: On Wednesday, seven people were given death sentence in Saudi Arabia. Out of these seven people, five have been punished for drug trafficking. Whereas, the other two people have been given death sentence in other cases. Giving this information, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that a Pakistani citizen was among those sentenced to death. Two Saudi citizens are also included in this, along with this, four Yemeni citizens have also been hanged.
Pakistani citizen hanged for drug smuggling
Quoting the Saudi Interior Ministry, SPA reported that four Yemeni citizens (Yahya Lutfullah, Ali Ajib, Ahmed Ali and Salem Nahari) were hanged in the southern province of Asir for smuggling hashish. At the same time, on Wednesday itself, a Pakistani citizen who was convicted for drug smuggling was also hanged.
Death toll reached 236 this year
A total of 236 people have been given death sentence in Saudi Arabia from the beginning of 2024 till now i.e. till October 2024. Out of which 71 people have been sentenced to death for drug trafficking. Let us tell you that Saudi Arabia has become the main market for Captagon, an addictive drug coming from Syria and Lebanon. Against which the Saudi government has adopted a very strict stance.
Saudi included among top hanging countries
Giving information in this regard, Amnesty International has said that Saudi Arabia is among the top countries in the world that carry out executions. He said that last year, in 2023, Saudi has given death sentence to the third highest number of prisoners in the world after China and Iran. At the same time, human rights groups have continuously criticized Saudi Arabia for its death penalty.
