In Odisha, the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government has run the state for a long time. After being in the government for almost 24 years, it was ousted from power by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) some time ago. After coming to power, BJP is not only the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Not only is it taking the state on the path shown by it, it is also busy in erasing even the name and work of the previous government. This can be seen in his current decisions and actions.
BJD government’s flagship scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) was replaced by BJP with Gopalbandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY). GJAY is a hybrid version of the Central Government’s PM-Jan Arogya Yojana and BSKY. Even the Mid Day Meal Scheme will now be known as PM Nutrition Scheme.
The schemes that were re-branded in Odisha also include:
- Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana to Gopalbandhi Jan Arogya Yojana
- CM Kisan from Kalia Yojana
- Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha developed village developed Odisha
- Millet Mission to Shri Anna Abhiyan
- Biju Setu Yojana to Setu Bandhana Yojana
- Chief Minister Bus Service by LACCMI Bus
- Biju Pakka Ghar Yojana to Antyodaya Ghar Yojana
- Utkarsh Utkal from Make in Odisha
- Prime Minister Matru Vandana Yojana from Mamta Yojana
The current government is also on a color change spree, replacing green (the theme color of the BJD regime) with orange. Gradually, government buildings, class IX and
Former BJD MLA Latika Pradhan believes that the new government has always ‘borrowed’ from her. This is because they know that the plans during Naveen Patnaik’s tenure were good. However, they not only lack foresight but are also deliberately trying to erase the legacy of Biju Patnaik by changing the names of schemes named after great sons of Odisha.
BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal told the English channel, “It is a lie that we have only changed the names and colors of the schemes. Our government has made many amendments in them to provide better services to the people. They are three brand new schemes. Why are you not talking about the projects we have launched in 100 days?”
