Decision on the post of Deputy Speaker will be taken on Wednesday
BJP MLA from Paddar-Nagaseni assembly constituency and leader of opposition Sunil Sharma said, “As per parliamentary rules, the opposition should get the post of deputy speaker in the House. We did not contest for the post of speaker and hope that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will follow the tradition. We will maintain it, but we will not beg for the post of Deputy Speaker.” However, sources said that the decision on the post of Deputy Speaker will be taken on Wednesday and if necessary, elections will be held for this post, but no consensus has been reached with the Indian alliance partners on the issue of giving this post to BJP.
A senior National Conference leader said, “BJP has not followed traditions anywhere in the country in the last ten years. Did they show courtesy towards the opposition in Parliament? Why should the pressure of tradition be on us?” He said that there is a 99 percent possibility that we ourselves will remain in the post or will appoint someone from the coalition partners.
If needed we BJP will fight for this post
Sunil Sharma said, “We do not have the numbers, but if needed, we can fight for this post.” On Sunday, when BJP elected Sunil Sharma as LOP of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the spokesperson posted the name of Surendra Singh as the candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker in the official BJP media group. However, the party later withdrew its name outlining the party’s vision for the upcoming assembly session starting today.
