Manipur Violence Update: Amidst the ongoing uproar in Manipur, there is a shortage of essential commodities and their prices are also skyrocketing. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (June 4) appealed to the people of the state to remove the blockade on the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway-2 so that essential commodities like food, medicine and fuel can be brought to the state. Important things can be reached.
In a tweet from his Twitter handle, Amit Shah has asked the members of the civil society to take initiative in this regard. He said, “It is my humble appeal to the people of Manipur to remove the blockade imposed on the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway-2 so that food, medicines, petrol/diesel and other essential commodities can reach the people.”

He further said, “I also request that civil organizations take necessary steps to build a consensus. Only together can we restore normalcy in this beautiful state.” Amit Shah recently made a four-day visit to Manipur to take stock of the situation. During this, he had held talks with various stakeholders to restore a sense of peace in the state.

Warned those with weapons
On the last day of his visit, the Union Home Minister urged all communities and sections of society to maintain peace, discuss and promote harmony, as well as hand over their weapons to the police. Shah had warned that strict action would be taken against those carrying weapons during the search operation by the police. He also appealed to people not to pay heed to rumors and maintain peace and harmony.
98 killed so far
Meanwhile, Security Advisor to the Manipur government Kuldeep Singh said on Sunday that there was no incident of violence in the state in the last 24 hours and there was complete peace in the state on Saturday. It may be noted that caste violence had erupted in Manipur after a tribal solidarity march was organized on May 3 to protest against the demand for Scheduled Tribe status by the Meitei community. So far 98 people have lost their lives in the violence.
