RBI’s problems are not over, Governor said- this is enemy number one

Inflation in India: The Reserve Bank has been trying to reduce inflation in the country for a long time. For this, interest rates have been kept high since last year. Now RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has given a very important statement regarding inflation in the country. He said that inflation has come down in India in the last few times, but this journey is still not complete. The retail inflation rate based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) came down to 3.65 percent in August. But after that the RBI Governor is considering inflation as a problem.

Inflation came down to 4 percent

Talking about inflation at the Bretton Woods Committee’s program ‘Future of Finance Forum 2024’ held in Singapore, Governor Shaktikanta Das said that in April 2022, the country’s inflation had reached its highest level i.e. 7.8 percent, but now it has seen a tremendous decline and it has been below the satisfactory level of 4 percent in the recent past. Reduction in inflation is a good thing, but along with this he said that the journey is still not over. We still need to keep making continuous efforts on this. We cannot afford to look the other way right now.

Inflation will remain this much in the financial year 2025

The Reserve Bank of India has estimated that the inflation rate will be 5.4 percent in the financial year 2023-24. Inflation is expected to come down to 4.5 percent in the financial year 2024-25. At the same time, inflation is expected to come down to 4.1 percent in the financial year 2025-26.

Risk has increased for banks

The RBI governor has said that in the recent past, due to inflation and rising dollar prices, the pressure on the monetary policy and management of banks has increased. Banks have started taking some precautions in giving loans to the real sector. He said that RBI will also take a decision on monetary policy management only after careful consideration.

The market has been expecting a rate cut for a long time. This expectation has increased further after the US Fed Reserve’s indications of a change in interest rates.
