Patanjali Ayurveda Case: Yoga guru Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved Limited Managing Director (MD) Balkrishna told the Supreme Court on Tuesday (April 23) that they have published unconditional apologies in newspapers for the mistakes made by them in the misleading advertisement case.
A bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah asked the lawyers of Ramdev and Balkrishna to place on record the apology letters published in newspapers within two days.
The lawyer appearing for Ramdev and Balkrishna told the bench that they would also issue additional advertisements apologizing unconditionally for their mistakes. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for both, said that they have published the apology in 67 newspapers across the country on Monday.
The bench fixed April 30 for further hearing in the case. The Supreme Court had instructed Ramdev and Balkrishna on April 16 not to make any attempt to discredit allopathy. The court had allowed him to publicly apologize and express remorse within a week in the case of misleading advertisement of Patanjali Ayurveda Limited.
The Supreme Court had also made it clear that it will not give them relief at this stage. The Supreme Court is hearing a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in 2022, accusing it of running a disinformation campaign against Covid vaccination and modern medical practices.
The petition alleged that Patanjali had made negative publicity regarding Covid vaccination and allopathy and had falsely claimed that its own Ayurvedic medicines would treat diseases. The petition said that Patanjali has claimed to completely cure corona and other diseases with its Ayurvedic medicines. Not only this, Patanjali Ayurveda has launched a derogatory campaign against modern medicine.
