Earlier, Pappalpreet Singh, a close aide of Amritpal Singh, was arrested by the Punjab Police from Hoshiarpur on 10 April. Pappalpreet was arrested following an operation by the Punjab Police and its Counter-Intelligence Unit. He was detained under the National Security Act (NSA).

Punjab Police sources said that Amritpal Singh and Pappalpreet got separated during a police chase on March 28. Since then there has been no contact between the two. The Punjab Police had received a tip-off that Amritpal and Pappalpreet had reached Gurudwara Janmasthan Sant Baba Nidan Singh, Nadlon village, Hoshiarpur on 27 March. Earlier, the Punjab Police had also shared a meme video from its Twitter handle warning Amritpal. It was written on this video that you can run away, but you cannot escape from the hands of the law.
