Maharashtra Politics Supreme Court Verdict: On Thursday (May 11), the constitution bench of the Supreme Court can give its verdict on the Maharashtra political crisis. Meanwhile, the political stir has increased in Maharashtra. It is believed that this decision will decide the political direction of the state. Eknath Shinde (Eknath Shinde) and Uddhav Thackeray (Uddhav Thackeray), the factions of both are claiming a decision in their favor.
Uddhav Thackeray faction MP Sanjay Raut said on Wednesday (May 10) that tomorrow it will be decided whether this country runs on the constitution or not. Is democracy alive in the country or not? Tomorrow it will also be decided whether our judicial system is working under any pressure or not. This country is run by the constitution and the country which does not run by the constitution, then you see the condition of Pakistan. Raut said that we want this country to be run by the constitution, our judicial system should remain independent.
“State government has majority”
Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar said that the present state government has a majority, no matter what the verdict is. After I became the speaker, this government was successful in the majority test. In terms of numbers, this government has a majority, no matter what decision comes. Narvekar had earlier said on Tuesday that the decision regarding disqualification of MLAs is the prerogative of the Speaker. Narvekar is also a trained lawyer. He also said that the judiciary is well aware of its responsibilities and duties.
“Full faith in Judiciary”
On the other hand, Aditya Thackeray, the leader of the Thackeray faction, said that we have full faith in the judiciary. The country will benefit only by following the constitution. Shinde faction leader Sanjay Shirsat said that I have come to know that the Supreme Court will pronounce its order tomorrow on the disqualification of 16 MLAs. Everything will be clear tomorrow, I am also one of the 16 MLAs. I think the decision of the Supreme Court will be in our favor. We are not worried about it.
“can prove majority”
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday claimed that the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP alliance can prove its majority by getting more than 184 votes in the 288-member assembly if needed. Bawankule also said that making comments before the Supreme Court verdict is pronounced is tantamount to contempt of court.
Notices were sent after the rebellion
Significantly, Eknath Shinde had rebelled in June last year taking along several Shiv Sena MLAs. Uddhav Thackeray’s government fell on June 19, 2022 after his rebellion. After this, Shinde formed the government with BJP and was sworn in as CM on 30 June. Shinde took 40 of the 56 Shiv Sena MLAs with him. However, out of the total rebel MLAs who went to the Shinde camp, disqualification notices were given to only 16 MLAs.
The Election Commission considered the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena.
The reason for this is that when Shinde rebelled, he was accompanied by 11 MLAs, who first went to Surat and later to Guwahati. A day later, these 12 MLAs did not attend the meeting called by Uddhav Thackeray. Therefore, initially the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena filed a petition seeking disqualification of the 12 MLAs for violating the party whip. Later, he sent notices to four more MLAs, taking the total to 16. It should also be mentioned that the Election Commission has declared the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena.
