PM Modi, while presiding over the meeting on Sunday evening, stressed on the safe evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine in the wake of the Russian attack, terming it a priority of his government.
Let us inform that so far about 1400 Indians have been brought home from Ukraine. About 20 thousand Indians were in Ukraine when the war started four days ago. After this, about eight thousand Indians have reached neighboring countries from Ukraine border. They are being brought back.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on Monday that we are encouraging Indians to go to the western part of Ukraine. At the same time, we are also emphasizing that people should not directly reach the border area. They (Indians) reached the western side and stayed in a nearby town.
Bagchi said that if the Indians trapped there will reach the border directly, then there will be a lot of crowd, so it will take a lot of time to evacuate them. The spokesman said, “Don’t panic. Contact our team (Ministry of External Affairs). Share your location.
He said that flight of planes is not a problem for us and more flights can be started. He said that once people cross the border with Ukraine, they will be taken out.
Significantly, due to the closure of Ukraine’s airspace, India is evacuating its citizens from there through its (Ukraine’s) border posts with Romania, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
