Medinipur Stone Pelting Incident: West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose on Friday (April 19, 2024) urged the Election Commission of India to investigate the stone pelting incident in Medinipur. He also demanded strict action against its culprits. On April 6, local people attacked National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials who had arrived to investigate a blast case in Purba Medinipur district.
Speaking to news agency ANI, CV Anand Bose said, “Peace and harmony is something that the people of Bengal want and the people of Bengal deserve. It is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure that there is law and order in the state.” It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to register a case and take strict action against those who indulge in violence, especially during elections.

NIA vehicle was also vandalized
According to an ANI report, the vehicle in which the NIA officers were traveling was also allegedly vandalized. All this happened when the NIA team was picking up a person in connection with a bomb blast case. In a video that went viral on social media, a crowd of village people is seen gathered. This crowd is seen stopping the NIA team from taking the accused. The villagers also allegedly pelted stones at the NIA vehicle.
ED team has been attacked before also
Before the attack on the NIA team, a similar incident had also happened with Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. Then a team of ED officers was surrounded by protesters in Sandeshkhali and beaten up. This incident took place when the ED team had come to raid the house of former Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Shaikh and another leader of the ruling party.
