Tiger in Mahisagar: The Gujarat Forest Department has started a search operation after a tiger was claimed to have been sighted in the Khanpur forest area of Mahisagar district. An official gave this information on Thursday. The residents of Pandarwada village had told local journalists a few days ago that they had seen a tiger. Some people even claimed that he was hunting small animals like goats. Deputy Conservator of Forests N. V. Choudhary said here, “We have started investigating the claims.”
Police engaged in investigation of claims
“Besides ordering foot patrol in the forest, we have installed cameras that work at night at four places. Our team is searching for important clues like footprints and scratches on trees and feces, which tigers leave to identify their territory. Choudhary, however, also said that in the preliminary investigation, the authorities have doubted these claims. He said, “No villager has even seen a tiger so far. The stories of tigers hunting their goats are also not true. I think they are mistaking a leopard or a striped hyena as a tiger. But our investigation is still on and we will also see the CCTV footage of the surrounding villages.
Tiger sighting was confirmed in 2019
It is noteworthy that even in February 2019, the presence of a tiger was confirmed in Lunavda tehsil of Mahisagar. Before this, a tiger was last seen in Gujarat in 1989. His remains were found two weeks later in the same forest area.
