Israel Hamas war: Five Palestinians living in Gaza, West Bank and America have sued the US for supporting the Israeli army. They allege that America has violated human rights. The lawsuit announced on Tuesday (November 17) accuses the State Department of failing to enforce US federal law, Al Jazeera reports. The lawsuit filed says that since the Gaza war started on October 7, 2023, there have been gross violations of human rights in Israel.
On October 7, Hamas launched a massive terrorist attack on Israel in which more than 1200 people were killed and more than 250 people were taken hostage. About 100 of them are believed to still be in captivity in Gaza. In the report filed there, it has been said that since the beginning of the war, a Palestinian teacher has been forcibly moved from one place to another seven times and 20 members of his family were killed in the Israeli attack.
America should stop giving military aid to Israel
In a statement accompanying the lawsuit, the teacher said, “My pain would be greatly reduced if the United States stopped providing military aid to Israel, which grossly violates human rights. This case centers around the Lehi Law, a federal regulation , which prevents the US government from funding foreign military units even when they are known to be involved in gross human rights violations.
America gives money every year
The US State Department said in a fact sheet explaining the law that those violations include torture, killings, enforced disappearances and rape. According to Al Jazeera, the US provides at least US$3.8 billion in military aid to Israel annually. Meanwhile, researchers at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island recently estimated that the Biden administration has given an additional US $ 17.9 billion to Israel since the beginning of the Gaza war.
