Kashmir issue in UNGA : Turkey, a close friend of Pakistan, has done something that has made the Shahbaz Sharif government lose sleep. On the other hand, India is happy with this. Actually, this time Turkey did not raise the issue of Kashmir in the United Nations General Assembly meeting. Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not mention Kashmir even once in his address to the General Assembly. This move of Turkey has given a big blow to Pakistan.
Every time the issue of Kashmir is raised by Pakistan in the United Nations General Assembly, it has been supported by China and Turkey. But this time Pakistan did not get anyone’s support. From India’s point of view, this is good news.
Shahbaz government is facing criticism
After the betrayal by Turkey in the UN, Pakistan is now completely alone in the world. After not getting support from any country on Kashmir, its own people are showing it the mirror. Former Pakistani diplomat Hussain Haqqani wrote on X that, ‘For many years, Pakistanis have been talking about resolving the ‘Kashmir dispute’ on the basis of the United Nations resolutions. But except the Prime Minister of Pakistan, no speaker from the 193 members in the UNGA mentioned Kashmir. Is there no one with Pakistan?’
Meanwhile, former Pakistani ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, said that Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is the only person to raise the Kashmir issue in the United Nations General Assembly.
was criticized in 2020
Everyone knows how the relations between Turkey and India are. Turkey’s PM Erdogan has made statements against India many times before. In the 2022 United Nations General Assembly meeting, Turkey supported Pakistan and criticized the Indian government’s decision to repeal Article 370 from Kashmir and claimed that this has worsened the situation. It is a different matter that India has always helped Turkey when needed.
