Tinder Scam: Online or digital scams are on the rise. Cyber thugs are targeting people in such ways that initially doubting these methods seems completely stupid and the person understands that he is thinking too much. A shocking scam has come to the fore in the meanwhile. In fact, a Bengaluru-based woman was duped by her online boyfriend and became invisible after taking Rs 4.5 lakh from her account.
How did the fraud happen?
According to the Indian Express report, a 37-year-old woman working in a private firm in Bengaluru was duped of Rs 4.5 lakh by a man she met on Tinder. Actually, the woman had met a man named Advik Chopra on the dating app (Tinder). The person described himself as working in the medical field and said that he is a resident of London. After talking continuously for about a month, both came very close, one day suddenly Chopra told the woman that he was coming to meet her. On May 17, the woman received a call from an unknown number in which the caller introduced himself as an official of the Airport Authority and said that Chopra had been caught with unaccounted cash. The officer asked the woman to transfer Rs 68,500 to drop Chopra and reach Bengaluru. Also demanded Rs 1.8 lakh as processing charge and an additional Rs 2.6 lakh.
Because the woman wanted that her Tinder boyfriend should not get into much trouble and come directly to meet her, for this the woman trusted the caller without telling anything to anyone and transferred the money. When the caller again demanded an additional Rs 6 lakh, the woman thought it was a fraud and she was trapped. As soon as the woman asked some questions to the caller, he disconnected the call and the profile was also deleted from Tinder.
Actually, the scammer had created a fake profile named Advik Chopra on Tinder so that he could target people. As soon as the scammer did his job, he deleted the profile and fled with the money.
Keep yourself safe like this
If you are also active on any dating or social media app, then before trusting any person, verify his details so that this does not happen to you. It is wise to avoid sending money or personal details online unless you meet someone physically.
