ICMR Study Report on Sudden Deaths: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has made a big disclosure regarding the sudden deaths of youth in the country. ICMR has said after a study that the reason for untimely deaths of youth in India in the last few years is not Covid vaccination but something else. Union Health Minister JP Nadda presented this study report of ICMR in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (10 December 2024).
Responding to a question, JP Nadda said that an ICMR study has conclusively shown that the risk of sudden death in young adults in India has not increased due to Covid-19 vaccination. This study shows that vaccination actually reduces the chances of such deaths. In fact, there was a discussion going on for some time that youth are dying untimely due to Covid vaccination, but this report has dispelled these apprehensions to a great extent.
Study conducted on people aged 18-45 years
The study conducted by ICMR focused on individuals aged 18-45 years who were apparently healthy and had no known diseases and who died suddenly between October 1, 2021, and March 31, 2023. Died. This research was done in 47 hospitals in 19 states and union territories.
In the analysis of the study, there were a total of 729 cases in which there was sudden death, while there were 2916 samples which were saved after heart attack. The findings showed that taking at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, especially two doses, significantly reduces the chances of sudden death without any cause.
This has been reported as the cause of sudden death
The study has also identified several factors that increase the risk of sudden death. These include history of COVID-19 hospitalization, history of sudden death in the family, drinking alcohol in the 48 hours before death, recreational drug use and excessive physical activity (exercise in the gym) in the 48 hours before death. Is included.
AEFI to track side effects of vaccination
The Union Health Minister said that a strong surveillance system named ‘Adverse Event Following Immunization’ (AEFI) has been created to track the side effects of vaccination. To increase awareness about AEFI, Nadda said guidelines have been issued to states to increase reporting of cases related to vaccine side effects. The government is using social media to spread awareness.
