Generally, the number of Somwari fast in Sawan is 4-5. But this time due to extra months, there will be a total of 8 Mondays in Savan, in which 4 will be of Savan and 4 of Adhikamas.

According to the Panchang, during these 15 days, the Krishna Paksha of the month of Sawan will be there. After this, the Shukla Paksha of the month of Sawan will be from 17th August to 31st August for the next 15 days. It will be valid to observe the fast of Sawan Somwari on the Monday falling in the dates of these two phases. These are the dates-
- First Monday fast of Sawan – 10 July 2023
- Second Monday fast of Sawan – 17 July 2023
- Sawan’s third Monday fast – 21 August 2023
- Sawan’s fourth Monday fast – 28 August 2023
other than 4 Sawan Monday Will fall in Adhikamas or Malmas, which will not be valid. Its dates are – 24 July, 31 July, 7 August and 21 August.

According to the Hindu calendar, Adhikamas takes place after every third year. It is also called Malmas or Purushottam month. The lunar month in which there is no Surya Sankranti is called Adhikamas.
