Netflix Password Sharing: Netflix was planning to stop password sharing for a long time. The company had started cracking down on password sharing. Gradually the company seems to be getting more serious in this direction. However, blocking password sharing is also affecting the number of Netflix customers. Netflix’s policy seems to be overshadowing that. Reports suggest that Netflix lost one million users after cracking down on password sharing.
Netflix lost one million users
According to a report by market research group Kantar, Netflix has lost more than one million users in Spain in the first quarter of 2023. It is being speculated that this has happened because of the company’s crackdown on password-sharing. Perhaps the people taking the subscription in the sharing stopped taking the subscription.
The company began charging users a monthly fee of €5.99, which is roughly Rs 500 in Indian rupees, in early February to prevent users from sharing their passwords with other households. The company also used technology to find out if users were not sharing passwords.
Two-thirds of users were sharing passwords
Kantar’s research reports that two-thirds of the users lost by Netflix were sharing passwords with other households. The company has suffered a loss of one million users. Even though most of them were not paid customers.

However, it is also important to keep in mind that this is only a quarter of the data and does not necessarily represent the company’s long-term user data. Following a successful roll-out in Latin American countries, Netflix has implemented a similar fee for password sharing in Portugal, Canada and New Zealand.
