Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Monday expressed regret over his controversial remark that an Indian businessman living here had tried to make him the prime minister. ‘Prachanda’ said that he should not have made such comments considering his current status. On July 3, during a book release event, Prime Minister Prachanda had said that Sardar Pritam Singh, a leading entrepreneur in Nepal, played an important and historic role in deepening Nepal-India relations and advocated for him.
Prachanda said, “He (Singh) once tried to make me the Prime Minister.” Addressing the Parliament session on Monday, he clarified his controversial remarks. He said, “I should not have said what I said as the Prime Minister. That day I did not give a speech as the Prime Minister, but as the father of a daughter. Prachanda said that when his elder daughter Gyanu was seriously ill with cancer, his son Prakash took him to Delhi, where he got her treated and temporarily stayed at Pritam Singh’s residence. He said that during this pause, Singh had said, “Prachanda should become the prime minister.”

On this statement of Prachanda, the opposition had created a ruckus in the Parliament. The entire opposition had even started demanding Prachanda’s resignation on this issue. Due to this, the pressure on Prachanda was continuously increasing. Now he has realized that considering the dignity of the post of PM, he should not speak like this. After this, Prachanda has expressed regret to all the political parties in the Parliament regarding his statement. (Language)
