It is believed that sowing barley on Navratri pleases Maa Bhagwati and by this one receives the blessings of Goddess Durga as well as Goddess Annapurna and Lord Brahma. After the barley sown on Navratri sprouts, auspicious and inauspicious signs are detected from it. Apart from this, barley is also offered during the worship of deities, Havan or any special ritual.

Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana takes place on the first day of Navratri. The auspicious time for Ghatasthapana on March 22, 2023 is from 06:29 to 07:39 am on Chaitra Navratri. On the other hand, Shukla Yoga will be from 12:42 am on March 21 to 09:18 am on March 22.

Auspicious and inauspicious signs of barley sown on Navratri

  • On the day of Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana of Navratri, barley is sown in an earthen pot in front of the Kalash and worship is done according to the rules and regulations. When the barley has grown well after nine days, it is immersed in the river.
  • It is believed that rain, crop and future can be ascertained by sowing barley. If the length of the barley is less or the barley does not grow well, it means that the rain and crop will be less that year.
  • If the color of the sown barley is half green and half yellow, then it is predicted that this year will be mixed and fruitful. That is, half the year can be good and half can be full of problems.
  • If barley first grows green and then turns white later, it is considered auspicious sign. It means that with the grace of Maa Bhagwati, happiness and prosperity will come in your life.
  • If the barley sown in Ghatasthapana sprouts in 2-3 days, then it is considered very auspicious. On the other hand, if barley does not grow at all during the nine days of Navratri, then it is considered an inauspicious sign. Therefore, while sowing barley, sow barley properly and sprinkle water regularly.
