Odisha Polls 2024: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released the third list of candidates for the assembly elections on Friday (April 5). Names of nine candidates have been declared in this list. With this, the ruling party has so far declared the names of 108 candidates. There are a total of 147 assembly seats in the state.
Leaders who joined BJD got tickets
Of the nine candidates announced in the third list, three have recently joined BJD. These include Prakash Behera (Barabati-Cuttack seat), Raisen Murmu (Rajgangpur seat) and Rohit Joseph Tirkey (Birmitrapur seat). This new list of BJD also includes the name of a woman candidate, Meena Majhi, who has been fielded from Keonjhar assembly seat. He will face Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mohan Majhi.
BJD President has again given ticket to Labor Minister Sharda Prasad Nayak. He will contest elections from Rourkela assembly constituency. In Odisha, before the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the process of defection of leaders continues and BJD has given tickets to about 30 percent of the defectors.
Who got the ticket from where?
The party has fielded Sudarshan Haripal from Rengali assembly, Sarada Prasad Nayak from Rourkela, Rohit Joseph Tirkey from Birmitrapur seat, Meena Majhi from Keonjhar seat, Raisin Murmu from Rairangpur seat, Swaroop Kumar Das from Balasore seat, Prakash Behera from Barabati-Cuttack seat, Salipur seat. Prashant Behera has been fielded from the seat and Naba Kishore Mallik has been fielded from the Jaidev seat.
Candidates announced for Lok Sabha elections
BJD led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced candidates for 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The party has nominated at least seven leaders from BJP or Congress. Many senior party leaders, including former MP Prasanna Patsani, were in the race to get the ticket from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat, but Patnaik gave preference to Manmat Routray, son of Pilot and six-time Congress MLA Suresh Routray.
