Namibia gets its first female President after 64 years, know who is Nandi who created history

Namibia First Woman President: For the first time in the history of the African country Namibia, a woman has become the President. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who was previously the country’s Vice President, has been elected as the first woman President. He is from SWAPO party. According to Reuters report, official results were presented last Tuesday (December 3), according to which the SWAPO party got 57 percent of valid votes, which crossed the 50 percent vote barrier required to become president. Nandi-Ndaitwah won a landslide victory by defeating her nearest rival Panduleni Itula of Patriots for Change (IPC), where Itula got only 26 percent of the votes.

Namibia got independence from South Africa in the year 1990. Since that time, Nandi-Nadaitawah have been continuously active in politics. However, this time after winning the presidential election, he has taken the party to a much stronger position. After the defeat in the elections, Nadaitwah’s opposition party IPC has alleged rigging in the electoral process. He alleged shortage of ballot papers and other technical glitches, due to which voting had to be extended by three days. He has said that he will go to court regarding this.

Statement by political analyst Raquel Andreas
According to Reuters report, 72-year-old Nandi-Ndaitwah has been active in politics for a long time. He joined the SWAPO party in the 1960s. After this he has played many senior roles including Foreign Minister. Regarding this, political analyst Raquel Andreas has described him as an important leader of SWAPO. He said that she has been leading in some form or the other since we got independence. Unlike some of his party colleagues, Nandy-Ndaitwah’s reputation has been unscathed by corruption allegations. After her victory, Nandi-Ndaitwah said, “The Namibian nation has voted for peace and stability.”
