Low Airfare Rates: Have you ever thought of flying from Mumbai to Ahmedabad for just Rs 1,400 or between Mumbai and Bangalore for around Rs 2,000 or less? This has now become possible as the increasing competition in the aviation sector has led to a price war between airlines to attract fliers. There were fears of a price war between Indian airlines after the Ministry of Civil Aviation removed the airfares cap from August 31.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad ticket between Rs 1399-1600
A closer look at the airfares revealed that the ticket price from Mumbai to Ahmedabad is Rs 1399 on GoFirst and Rs 1,497 for travel on the new Akasa Air on September 9. IndiGo, the largest domestic airline, is offering tickets on the same route for Rs 1,609.
Know which routes are getting cheap tickets
Similar is the situation on the Mumbai-Bangalore route, in which tickets are available from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,200. While Akasa Air is offering tickets for the journey on September 9 at Rs 1997, IndiGo is available for Rs 2,208.
what the experts say
Aviation industry experts said the high competition among airlines could benefit fliers and many airlines may offer discounts as per demand. Interestingly, the prices have come down on most of the routes on which the recently launched Akasa Air has started its operations.
An expert said that this move of the aviation ministry has given the airlines flexibility in fixing airfares as they can now charge according to their policies.
Akasa Air’s entry also increased competition
The entry of Akasa Air has increased the competition in the aviation sector. To attract fliers, some airlines have already started offering tickets at lower rates. Earlier, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had said that it has been decided to remove the fare band notified from time to time in respect of airfares, passenger demand for air travel, with effect from August 31.
Aviation ministry had imposed lower and upper limit
The ministry had imposed lower and upper limits on airfares after the resumption of services in May 2020 after the initial two-month nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19. After this, the borders were relaxed in a phased manner according to the improvement in air traffic in the country.
