Justice B. R. Gavai, Justice Satishchandra Sharma and Justice Sandeep Mehta said, “Prima facie, we find that it is not appropriate to cancel the permission granted to the petitioner to hold the prayer meeting.”

What does the Supreme Court say?

The Supreme Court bench said, “The permission granted vide order dated March 22, 2024 and amended on April 5, 2024, specified various conditions so as to protect the interests of all stakeholders.” And it can also be ensured that no law and order situation arises. In our view, canceling the permission was not appropriate in these circumstances. The bench also issued notices to the Madhya Pradesh government and Indore administration on the petition of Suresh Carltons.

The petition was filed against the High Court order canceling the permission to organize the prayer meeting. The bench said, “Needless to say that the petitioner will be entitled to hold the prayer meeting today i.e. April 10, 2024 at 5:00 pm, however, the decision will depend on the strict compliance of the instructions/conditions by the petitioner “

Information given immediately to the administration on the orders of the Supreme Court

The bench directed its registry to ‘immediately communicate the order to the Registrar (Court) of the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Indore, who will in turn communicate the same to the District Magistrate, Indore’. Earlier, the Indore administration had canceled the permission for the prayer meeting of the Christian community to be held on Wednesday, citing the law and order situation. In an order issued on Sunday, an assistant returning officer of Indore Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh canceled the permission for the prayer meeting. Approval for this meeting was given on April 5.
