Moeen Ali on Ben Stokes: England all-rounder Moeen Ali has recently withdrawn his retirement from Tests. Moeen Ali decided to come out of Test retirement due to the Ashes series to be played against Australia. He was included in England’s squad for the Ashes in place of spinner Jack Leach. After withdrawing his retirement, Moin Ali told that only Ben Stokes could bring him back.
Speaking to a reporter at Edgbaston, Moeen Ali said, “Stokes messaged me with one question – Ashes?” Moin Ali told that he had not heard the news of Jack Leach being out and thought that Stokes was joking. He said, “Then the news came and I had a conversation with him. This is the Ashes. It would be amazing to be a part of it.”
Moin Ali told that apart from Ben Stokes, no other captain could change his mind. Could someone else have changed Moeen Ali’s mind? Responding to this, Moin Ali said, “Probably not, no. Moeen Ali said, “The fact that it’s the Ashes and it’s such a big series, it would be wonderful to be a part of it.”
Moeen wanted to play Test under Stokes’ captaincy and McCullum’s coaching
Moeen Ali had said last year that he wanted to join exciting cricket. Ever since Ben Stokes became the captain and Brendon McCullum became the coach of the England Test team, since then England have played 13 Tests, in which the team has won 11. Moeen Ali said, “There will be no question of you playing any shots, which I think would have given me license to play some more rash shots.”
Moin Ali’s Test career has been like this so far
Moin Ali has played 64 test matches so far. He played his last Test match against India in 2021. While batting in 111 innings of Test matches played so far, he has scored 2914 runs with the help of 5 centuries and 14 half-centuries and has taken 195 wickets at an average of 36.66 while bowling.
