‘Modi government does not have the capability to respond to Bangladesh’, said Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati

Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand: Protests are being held across the country and the world against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand has expressed concern over the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh and has raised questions on the Modi government at the Centre. During this time, he has also reacted to the ongoing conflict regarding leading the India alliance.

‘Modi government is not capable of answering Bangladesh’

Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda said, “The way the Muslims living there are persecuting the Hindus in Bangladesh is a matter of great concern. Today, even though Bangladesh is Bangladesh… earlier it was Pakistan and even before that it was India.” They are our Hindus, we are connected to them, that is why we are worried.”

He said, “We are expecting and requesting the Indian government to stop this, but as time is passing, we need to think seriously on this. It is a matter of concern that despite being a Hindu government, Even the Indian government is not able to respond properly on that.”

What did Shankaracharya say on leading the India alliance?

On the question of leading the India alliance, he said that this is his own matter. He said, “I or anyone from outside cannot speak on that. All the parties involved in the alliance will consider who will represent them.”

Human rights organization Center for Democracy, Pluralism and Human Rights (CDPHR) on Friday presented a report on the situation of minorities in Bangladesh after the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power in August 2024. This report claims attacks on more than 150 Hindu families, setting fire to many houses, vandalism and looting of about 20 temples.

Four people were arrested on Saturday (14 December 2024) for vandalizing houses, shops and damaging the local Loknath temple of the Hindu community in Sunamganj district of northern Bangladesh. In this case, the police have also registered a case against 150 to 170 people including 12 named.
