Reports: In India, there has been a huge reduction in Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in 2018-20 as compared to 2014-16. According to a special bulletin issued by the Office of the Registrar General of India, the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in the country has reached 97. Which is very less compared to 130 maternal deaths per lakh children born in 2014-16. Looking at these figures, it can be said that India’s graph has improved in this matter.
However, there is a huge difference between the maternal mortality rate in different states of the country. On the one hand, where it still remains 197 in Assam, it has reached 19 in a state like Kerala. There are 167 in UP, 173 in Madhya Pradesh and 118 in Bihar. Explain that the deaths per one lakh mothers during reproduction are measured as maternal mortality rate and a target has been set to bring it below 70 in the global sustainable development goal.
Mansukh Mandaviya gave credit to Modi government
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this improvement. Along with this, Mandaviya shared the MMR report. Also tweeting, he wrote that the maternal mortality rate decreased from 130 in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh births in 2018-2020. Maternal death is defined by the World Health Organization as the death of a woman during pregnancy or within 42 days after an abortion, regardless of the length and location of the pregnancy. It is death due to any reason related to pregnancy or its management, but not due to accidental causes.
