It is believed that on this day mother Sati burnt her body in the fire pit of Yagya at her father Daksha’s house. Mother Dhumavati was born from the smoke coming out of the body of mother Sati burnt in this fire pit. Mother Dhumavati is considered one of the 10 Mahavidyas.
