Potato Supply: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has banned the supply of potatoes in Dhanbad and other districts of Jharkhand from Thursday (November 28, 2024). Bengal Police officials posted at Debudih check post, located on the Bengal-Jharkhand border, about 48 km from the district headquarters, sent back all the trucks laden with potatoes going from Asansol towards Dhanbad.
In view of the immense increase in the prices of potatoes in the wholesale and retail markets, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken strict steps. To control prices, on the orders of Mamata Banerjee, the export of potatoes from the state has once again been banned. Since late Thursday night P. The trucks loaded with potatoes from the potato warehouses of Bengal state and going to other states were stopped by the police administration at Dubudih check naka post of Kulti police station and sent back to the warehouses of the state.
More than a dozen trucks were not allowed to cross the border
It is being told that the Chief Minister has given strict orders that no potato truck should go out of the state, after which the potato trucks are being sent back by conducting a police checking operation on the Bengal-Jharkhand border. More than a dozen trucks have been sent back while some are still standing at the border.
Citing instructions from senior state government officials, officials said the ban is aimed at controlling the rising price of potatoes in West Bengal. Potato is sold at Rs 25 per kg in West Bengal, while its price in the open market of Dhanbad is Rs 30 to Rs 35 per kg.
If the potato traders of Dhanbad are to be believed, about 38 to 40 trucks of potatoes are supplied daily in the district including areas like Katras, Jharia, Dhanbad Sadar, Govindpur and Nirsa. Most of this supply comes from various districts of Bengal.
This fear persists among truck drivers
The truck drivers said that suddenly the administration stopped the truck and told them that the potatoes could no longer be taken out. You all go to the warehouse from where you loaded the potatoes. What should we do in such a situation? There is a fear of raw material getting spoiled.
