According to the report of Daily Mail, this new type of scam is being seen more in Australia. In this scam, hackers send such messages to people on Facebook, in which it is written that someone close to you has died. There is a link in this message. As soon as the user clicks on this link, he is asked for Facebook ID and password so that he can read the link further. As soon as the person enters all these details, his account gets hacked and hackers steal all the personal information from this account, like DOB, mobile number, email ID, bank details (if any) etc. Apart from this, hackers also send similar messages from this ID to the friends of that person so that the data can be stolen. On getting the information, they steal people’s personal data and money from it.
Lost so many rupees till now
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Scamwatch, phishing has cost Australians more than $11.5 million in 2023 alone. In a report, this information has come out that every seven minutes a customer in the UK becomes a victim of online scams in different platforms of Meta and in a week people lose more than 5,00,000 pounds. Another shocking news is that more than two-thirds of online shopping scams start on Facebook and Instagram. Its information has been revealed in the research of UK-based Lloyds Banking Group.
