The main accused in the Badlapur rape case, Akshay Shinde, died in an encounter on Monday (September 23). He opened fire on the police. The police retaliated, in which he was injured. The accused was admitted to a hospital where he died.
An official said that Akshay Shinde, who worked as a sweeper in the school, was being taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur for investigation. He said that when the police vehicle reached Mumbra bypass, Shinde snatched the gun of a policeman and opened fire on an Assistant Police Inspector (ASI). The officer said that Shinde was injured in retaliatory firing. Two girls were allegedly sexually abused in the school toilet on August 12. The accused was arrested on August 17.
