Trouble in retrenchment coming in Europe

Both Google and Amazon have laid off thousands of employees in several phases. According to a Bloomberg news, both the giants have laid off on a large scale in many markets, but they are facing difficulties in retrenchment due to strict labor laws in European countries. For this reason, companies want the employees to leave the job on their own.

Some European countries have provisions that require companies to consult councils set up to protect workers’ interests before laying off or firing an employee. Consultations, data collection and other processes take months. Keeping this in mind, big companies are looking at other options.

Google gave this offer

According to Bloomberg’s report, Google’s parent company Alphabet is taking the help of similar councils in France and Germany to lay off. The company has offered its employees in France to leave the job on their own and in return take advantage of a decent relief package from the company.

This is Amazon’s offer

Similarly, it has been told in the news that Amazon is offering a year’s salary to managers with 5-8 years of experience who leave their jobs voluntarily. Apart from this, such employees are also being given the facility to redeem the shares on behalf of the company and to get the amount in the form of bonus. In Germany, Amazon is firing those employees who are currently on probation.
