Also, a shoe was thrown at him, after which the Kotwali police registered a case against the accused under various sections. After this incident, SP Vinod Kumar Singh had also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for arresting the absconding lawyer. To avoid arrest, Nitin Atal had filed a petition in the Indore bench of the High Court seeking relief, but the court had ordered him to surrender at the concerned police station.

After this, challenging the order of the High Court, the accused had filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court, on which the bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mithal, while hearing on Friday (April 12), upheld the order of the Indore High Court (bench). In a related incident, cases have also been registered against the lawyer’s brothers, who are accused of threatening a female lawyer who was an eyewitness to the January 22 incident. Despite her complaints to local authorities and the police, initial inaction led the woman lawyer to seek judicial intervention. After this a case was registered against the lawyer’s brothers.
