Blanket Cleaning Tips: Indian Railways has once again come under the scanner regarding cleanliness and hygiene in coaches. Actually, under RTI, a question was asked as to how many days does it take for the blankets given to the passengers to be washed. In response, Railways said that the blankets are washed once a month. If seen, this is a big fraud on the health of the passengers. After this revelation, while the opposition parties are preparing to open a front against the government and the railways, the people traveling in the railways are also shocked.
Dirty pillows, sheets and blankets are dangerous for health.
Health experts say that even though the Railways is giving dirty blankets to the passengers, it is very dangerous from the health point of view. If not washed for a long time, these blankets become home to bacteria. After being used by different types of passengers, they become a hub of diseases and when a healthy passenger uses them, he also becomes ill.
Dirty blankets get filled with dust, soil, dirt, bacteria and other allergic substances which have a bad effect on health. This may cause skin related problems. Eczema, rashes, itching and even boils can occur. At the same time, for asthma patients, these blankets can prove to trigger seizures. If they are not washed for a long time, passengers may suffer from respiratory problems like asthma and bronchitis. Dirty blankets can also cause sinus and headaches.
How often should blankets and quilts be washed?
The issue of railways is not only hot, but winter is also coming. In such a situation, people are preparing to remove the quilts and blankets stuck in the diwans and beds of their homes. In such a situation, if you take them out from the pan and use them immediately, you may fall ill. First of all they should be exposed to adequate sunlight. Due to being closed for months, bacteria and germs start growing in these blankets and quilts. Therefore, first take them out from the divan and expose them to sunlight.
After this, wash the blankets or send them for dry cleaning. As long as you use them, they should be exposed to sunlight twice a week and they should be washed in between. After washing them with detergent, add lemon, Dettol or vinegar to lukewarm water and keep them in water for some time. This will make the bacteria free.
