Islamabad: The arrow of Kashmir is piercing Pakistan like a spear. Ever since PM Modi has removed Article 370 and 35A from Kashmir, Pakistan has also lost sleep. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has once again raised the Kashmir issue while addressing the joint session of Parliament on Thursday. He stressed the need to resolve this to ensure peace and development in South Asia. Amid sloganeering against the government by MPs from jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, President Zardari urged political leaders to abandon politics of polarization to deal with the challenges facing the cash-strapped country.
Regarding Kashmir, Zardari said that India should withdraw all the steps taken since August 5, 2019 and allow the people of Kashmir to exercise their right to self-determination to determine their future. He also said that an environment of peace is necessary for development in the South Asia region and resolution of the Kashmir issue is the key to peace. India has made it clear to Pakistan that the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inseparable parts of the country. India has also said that the constitutional steps taken by the Government of India to ensure socio-economic development and good governance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are an internal matter of India.
Zardari has become the President of Pakistan for the second time
Zardari, who was elected President of Pakistan for the second time, said in his address that he believes in the strength of the nation to deal with all challenges unitedly. Zardari said, “The country now needs to move away from polarization and move towards contemporary politics.” This joint House should play a leading role in restoring public confidence in the parliamentary process.” Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), was the candidate of the coalition government and was sworn in as the 14th president last month. Zardari urged to develop an inclusive development model based on equality of opportunities for all provinces.
He said that attracting foreign investment should be the primary objective of the country. He asked the government to simplify the existing rules and create an enabling environment for domestic and foreign investors. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPs protested during the President’s address and raised slogans of “Zardari go”, but the President continued his address with confidence. (Language)
