Waqf Board Land Row: Waqf Board has claimed 1200 acres of land of farmers in Vijayapura, Karnataka. The board has issued a notice to the farmers to vacate the land. On which Minister MB Patil said on Sunday (27 October) that not a single inch of farmers’ land is the property of the Waqf Board.
Patil said that due to an error in the old gazette notification, notices were issued to the people of Honwada village in Vijayapura district to vacate their ancestral land under the Waqf Act. Karnataka Waqf Board cannot claim rights over 1,200 acres of land owned by village farmers.
Only 10 acres of Waqf Board land
Vijayapura district in-charge minister Patil said, “In the gazette notification of 1974, it was mistakenly written as Honwada village.” The land there is basically part of Mahal Bagh survey no. In 1977, the Waqf Board amended its documents, making it clear that only 10 acres of cremation land belonged to it.”
‘Farmers have 1,200 acres of land’
The minister said that 1,200 acres of land claimed by the Waqf Board belongs to the farmers. Therefore, not even an inch of the farmers’ land is the property of the Waqf Board. Patil further said that he will hold a meeting with the district, revenue department and Waqf Board officials to resolve the matter.
‘Cremation land is also property of Panchayat’
He said that the case related to 10 acres of cremation land is also pending in the court and people should wait for its outcome. Patil claimed that the cremation ground is also the property of the panchayat.
Actually, the farmers there are in a dilemma after the Waqf Board’s claim on 1200 acres of land in Honwada of Vijayapura district in Karnataka. The matter heated up when he received a notice that all his land belonged to the Waqf Board.
