Jharkhand News: Jharkhand High Court on Friday (December 3) gave four weeks time to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file its reply on the petition of former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, in which she has challenged her detention. The High Court has given ED four weeks time to file the affidavit.
Chhavi Ranjan has moved the High Court challenging the cognizance order taken against him by the Ranchi-based Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court. Also requested to cancel the case. He has also termed the arrest made by ED as illegal.
Chhavi Ranjan was arrested in May last year
Ranjan, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2011 batch, was arrested in Ranchi on May 4 last year. He is accused of playing an important role in the illegal sale of 4.55 acres of army land in Bariatu area of Ranchi.
ED had raided in April 2023
In the land scam, ED filed charge sheet against 10 accused including Chhavi Ranjan, Prem Prakash, Amit Kumar Aggarwal. On April 13, 2023, the ED had raided 22 locations of 18 people, including Chhavi Ranjan and a revenue employee of Badgai. During this period, a large number of fake land deeds, seals and other documents were seized.
They are accused of buying and selling land of Cheshire Home Road and Bajra Mauza besides the land occupied by the army by forging documents. It was also told that through Prem Prakash, Rs 1 crore was given for the mutation of the land occupied by the army. In the ED action, former DC Chhavi Ranjan was sent to jail by the special ED court.
