Jammu and Kashmir News: The Jammu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a meeting in Srinagar on Sunday to elect the leader of its legislative party ahead of the first session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly starting from November 4 after a gap of almost six years. BJP had won 29 seats in the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. This is his best performance so far in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
However, BJP MLA Devendra Singh Rana, who won from Nagrota by a margin of more than 30 thousand votes, died due to illness on Thursday. He was considered to be the frontrunner for the post of Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Rana, known as the “Voice of Jammu”, had left the National Conference along with his close aide and former minister SS Salathia and joined the BJP in October 2021. Last month, the BJP parliamentary board had appointed Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and party national general secretary Tarun Chugh as observers to select the legislature party leader in Jammu and Kashmir.
