‘It is necessary to condemn and control terrorism’, vow taken in the meeting of SCO Defense Ministers

SCO Defense Minister Meeting: India organized a two-day meeting of the Defense Ministers of the countries involved in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This meeting started from 27 April. It was attended by representatives of all the member countries including host India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. During this, the country’s Defense Secretary Giridhar Armane said that the SCO member countries presented a unanimous resolution on Friday (April 28), which included condemnation and control of all forms of terrorism.

Addressing reporters at the conclusion of the SCO Defense Ministers’ meeting, Defense Secretary Armane said that all member countries were unanimous in their statement that terrorism, in whatever form it may be, should be condemned and controlled. This year a pledge was taken to ensure a secure future.

India will ensure a secure future for the world
India’s Defense Secretary Giridhar Armane said in his statement that regional terrorist activities, smuggling, narcotics and other areas have been identified. Action will be taken on this in the coming time. As the Chair of SCO this year, India will focus on ensuring a secure future for the world and will also lead for it.

Describing the meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of SCO as successful, Armane said that we are fortunate that today a joint press release and protocol was signed by all the Defense Ministers. The Defense Secretary said that it is indeed a tribute to the cooperative attitude of all the member countries of this organization that we could reach consensus on several areas of cooperation in the defense sector.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the meeting
Earlier on Friday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the meeting of Defense Ministers of SCO in Delhi. He said that India believes in maintaining peace and security on the basis of United Nations Charter provisions. Calls upon all member states to make concerted efforts to ensure victory.

The SCO Defense Ministers’ meeting was attended by the Defense Ministers of China (Gen. Li Shangfu), Russia (Gen. Sergei Shoigu), Iran (Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Gharai Ashtiani), Belarus (Lt. Gen. Khrenin VG), Kazakhstan (Col. Gen. Ruslan Zhaklyakov), Uzbekistan (Lieutenant General Bakhodir Kurbanov), Kyrgyzstan (Lieutenant General Bekbolotov Baktibek Asankalievich) and Tajikistan (Colonel General Sherali Mirzo) attended the meeting. The ministers discussed issues of common concern including issues related to regional and international security under the charter of SCO during the meeting.
