Amidst the ongoing protests in the country, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a tough decision. He dismissed the country’s Defense Chief Yoav Galant from his post. Since then, thousands of supporters of the defense chief demonstrated outside Jamin Netanyahu’s house.

70 thousand people stayed on the streets overnight

The situation of protest in Israel is such that 70 thousand people are standing on the streets overnight. On Sunday (March 26), police scuffled with protesters outside Netanyahu’s residence in Jerusalem, while others gathered near the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv in support of sacked minister Yoav Galant and against Netanyahu. They gathered in the streets waving Israeli flags.

Due to this the traffic got disrupted. This happened when a statement came from the Prime Minister’s Office that the Defense Minister has been sacked. The defense minister is believed to have defied Netanyahu and called for a prolonged suspension of the controversial law.

Netanyahu’s controversial proposal has sharply divided Israeli society. The country has been diplomatically isolated. At the same time, longtime allies including the US, Britain, Germany and France have made an argument. He said that a fully independent and strong judiciary is vital for a functioning democracy.

Under the new proposed law, the responsibility of appointing new judges will fall in the hands of politicians. Even the right to choose the Justice of the High Court will go to the leaders.
