Is OpenAI training its AI models using YouTube? Revealed in this report

Artificial Intelligence: YouTube has accused OpenEye of misuse of its platform. It says that OpenAI is using YouTube videos to train its text to video tool. According to reports, OpenAI has developed its new model Whisper, which can convert audio into text. A report says that OpenAI has transcribed millions of hours of videos from YouTube using this model.

According to the New York Times report, OpenAI knew that what it was doing could be legally wrong, but it believed that it was within the scope of fair use. Not only this, it has also been claimed in the report that OpenAI President Greg Brockman himself was involved in the work of collecting this video. Earlier, during an interview, YouTube CEO Neil Mohan had protested against the allegation of using OpenAI in YouTube videos.

‘This is a violation of policy…’

YouTube CEO Neil Mohan said during an interview that OpenAI is using YouTube videos to trend its text to video tool, which is a violation of policy. He said that creators who upload content on the platform have the expectation that their work will be used as per certain conditions.

Speaking to The Verge, OpenAI spokeswoman Lindsay Held said the company collects data from multiple sources, including public and non-public data. This data helps models understand the world.

Microsoft has not said anything yet regarding these allegations against OpenAI. It is Microsoft which has invested the most in AI.
