Kolkata Rape Murder Case: A local court on Monday (04 November) framed charges against the main accused Sanjay Roy, 87 days after the body of a trainee female doctor was found in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. However, Roy has declared himself innocent and has accused him of being implicated in the case.
The court announced that the case will be heard on a day-to-day basis from November 11. A case has been registered against Roy under various relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). As Roy was being taken out of the court, he said, “I have not done anything.” I have been implicated in this rape-murder case. No one is listening to me. The government is implicating me and threatening me not to open my mouth.
Fear of big conspiracy in CBI chargesheet
In the preliminary chargesheet filed last month, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had described Roy as the ‘sole main accused’ in the case. In the CBI charge sheet, the suspicion of a ‘big conspiracy’ behind this crime has also been expressed. The body of a female doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital on August 9, after which junior doctors across West Bengal started a ‘work boycott’ movement demanding justice in the case.
CBI said that CCTV footage recovered from the incident site shows that Sanjay Roy was at the crime scene. The agency has listed the time of arrival and departure of the accused at the entry gate of the trauma center building from 3:34 am on August 9.
Sanjay Roy was captured in the hospital’s CCTV footage.
Sanjay Roy, a civilian volunteer working with the Kolkata Police, was allowed to roam freely in the hospital and was captured on CCTV cameras entering the hospital before the rape-murder of the 31-year-old doctor. Investigators released CCTV screen grabs of Sanjay Roy entering the hospital an hour after midnight. The footage showed a Bluetooth earphone hanging around Sanjay Roy’s neck, which police said was found at the crime scene.
