Iran’s neighbor became the biggest buyer of our weapons, defense export worth Rs 21000 crore

Export from India: India’s defense exports are increasing rapidly. The sale of military equipment from India has crossed the figure of Rs 21 thousand crores. Iran’s neighbor Armenia has become its biggest buyer. Armenia has purchased advanced weapon systems like Akash Missiles and Pinaka Rockets from us. Due to this changed trend, India’s position in the defense sector is changing. We are now moving from being the largest importer of arms to becoming an exporter.

Armenia becomes the largest buyer of our defense products

According to the report of Economic Times, India has made major changes in its defense export strategy. Earlier we were avoiding selling lethal weapons but now India is not averse to it at all. This is the reason why Armenia has become the largest buyer of our defense products. Apart from Akash and Pinaka, it has also purchased 155 mm artillery gun from India. The report claims that sales of India’s military equipment have reached Rs 21,083 crore ($2.6 billion) in the financial year 2023-24. Apart from Armenia, America and France have also bought our weapons.

India is supplying arms and ammunition to about 100 countries

Indian public sector and private companies are supplying different types of arms and ammunition to about 100 countries. These also include BrahMos, Dornier 228 aircraft, radar and armored vehicles. Companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin are also buying aircraft and helicopter parts from us. Tata Boeing Aerospace is also contributing in this. France is also buying software and electronic goods from India.

A target of Rs 3 lakh crore has been set for defense production.

Armenia has also signed a contract to purchase radar, bullet proof jackets and night vision goggles from India. During the war with Azerbaijan, Armenia made most of its purchases from India. Azerbaijan has the support of Türkiye and Pakistan. Now Brazil is also keen to buy defense goods from India. Apart from this, Philippines and many Gulf countries are also talking to us in this regard. The Government of India has set a target of Rs 3 lakh crore for defense production. Out of this, production worth Rs 1.2 lakh crore has been achieved in the financial year 2023-24 itself. There are 16 public sector companies, 430 licensed companies and about 1,600 MSMEs working in the defense sector in India.
