ISRO OneWeb Mission: The Indian Space Research Organization ie ISRO is on the cusp of achieving another success. On March 26, ISRO will launch 36 satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota. All these satellites will be sent into space through the launch vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3). All these belong to the satellite communication company OneBev.
This will be the second mission of ISRO’s commercial unit ‘NewSpace India Limited’ (NSIL) for satellite communication company OneWeb. Network Axis Associated Limited ie OneWeb is a UK based communications company. The British government, Indian company Bharti Enterprises, France’s Eutelsat, Japan’s SoftBank, America’s Hughes Networks and South Korean defense company Hanwha are its stakeholders. It is a communication company providing satellite based service. Its headquarter is in London.
Oneweb will have more than 600 satellites
With ISRO’s mission on Sunday, OneWeb will also achieve the goal of completing a group of more than 600 satellites in the lower orbit of the Earth. This will pave the way for providing broadband internet services from space to every corner of the world. OneBev is very excited about ISRO’s mission. That company says that this launch mission of ISRO will prove to be a milestone in terms of getting global coverage. With this last launch with ISRO, there will be more than 600 satellites in space. In this way, ISRO will have a second mission for OneWeb, but this will be the 18th launch of OneWeb to provide internet facility from space. So far 582 satellites of this UK based company have been installed in space. Earlier on March 9, SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket had installed 40 satellites of OneWeb in space. ISRO’s mission will complete the first generation of space launches for OneWeb.
OneWeb had an agreement with ISRO
ISRO’s LVM3 launch vehicle will place 36 satellites of OneWeb into low Earth orbit on March 26. This will be ISRO’s second launch mission for OneBav. Earlier on 23 October 2022, ISRO launched the first 36 satellites of OneWeb from Sriharikota. ISRO’s commercial arm ‘NewSpace India Limited’ had tied up with OneWeb to launch 72 satellites in two phases. The launch fee under this agreement was more than one thousand crore rupees. This agreement is one of ISRO’s largest satellite launch commercial orders. This launch of NSIL is very important from the commercial aspect of ISRO. Due to this, the possibilities of billions of dollars coming into the country through space business have also been strengthened. NewSpace India Limited ie NSIL is the commercial arm of ISRO. It also has the responsibility of procuring rockets and satellites made through industry for the supply of space services.
Launching from LVM3-M3
36 satellites for OneWeb will be launched from ISRO’s heaviest rocket Mark-3 (LVM3). This is the first launch of this rocket in 2023. This rocket will be released from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Center on March 26 at 9 am. Prior to this launch vehicle, ISRO has named this mission as LVM3-M3 / OneWeb India-2 mission. This rocket was earlier known as GSLV MK III.
Oneweb service will start in India as well
OneWeb says that by the end of this year, broadband internet services from space will start worldwide. Currently, OneWeb is providing Internet from space to countries located above 50 degrees north latitude in Alaska, Canada, Greenland, the United Kingdom and northern Europe. OneWeb plans to launch services in India later this year. However, the process of all regulatory approvals is yet to be completed for this. OneWeb has obtained a Global Mobile Private Communications (GMPCS) permit from the Department of Telecommunications, India for GMPCS satellite services. As we know that Indian company Bharti Enterprises also has a stake in OneWeb. Completion of OneWeb’s mission will go a long way in bridging the digital divide in India. OneWeb’s service will help in providing broadband internet in small cities, towns, villages and villages of India at low cost and without any hindrance. With this, internet service will be able to reach the remotest corners of the country at a fast speed. ISRO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Space S. Somnath has described this mission as historic for the country and the Indian space programme.
The Internet world is expected to be rejuvenated once the OneWeb plan is fully operational. The most important thing is that India will also have an important contribution in this campaign through ISRO and Bharti Enterprises.
