He said, “Whatever is happening on the ground is very disturbing. The court has also reflected this in its various pronouncements and observations. We will definitely see that there is a change in the present trend and peace and harmony prevail in the society.
8 killed in violent incidents in Bengal
He said, “Every citizen will be able to cast their vote freely and fearlessly – this is the commitment and we are trying to take it forward. I’m going to the field. I like to get experience in the field.
At least eight people were killed and several injured in the state in the past two weeks in clashes over the filing of nominations for the panchayat polls. Sources in the governor’s office said that in the meeting, the opposition expressed concern over several candidates not being able to file their nominations due to alleged threats from workers and supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Voting will be held on July 8
Panchayat elections are to be held in the state on July 8 and the nomination process for this ended on June 15. The opposition demanded that central forces should be deployed for six weeks after the counting of votes on July 11 in view of the possibility of post-poll violence.
A delegation of BJP’s alliance partners from Darjeeling region led by BJP MP Raju Bista was present in the meeting. Sources said that Bimal Gurung and Hamro party chief Ajay Edwards were not present in the meeting.
