India is creating its own identity across the world. A recent report has revealed that a large number of foreign students are also becoming a part of the Indian education system. Compared to previous years, 2024-25 has seen a record growth.
According to reports, a record 72,218 foreign students from 200 countries decided to become a part of the Indian education system for the academic year 2024-25. This number is much more than the 64,000 students of last year 2023-24.
What do the statistics say?
An increase in the number of foreign students in India was seen after 2014-15, but there was a huge decline due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2011-12, there were only 16,410 foreign students in India, which increased to 34,774 in 2014-15. After this, in 2016-17 the number reached 47,575 and in 2019-20 this figure crossed 49,348. But after Covid-19, this number came down again to the level of 2014-15.
The process became easier
But the efforts and schemes made by the Education Ministry have led to a surprising increase in the number of foreign students this time. Under this, the “Study in India” program was started in 2018, the objective of which was to present India as a major education centre. The portal took a fresh look in 2023 when it was relaunched as a centralized platform in August. Due to which the admission and visa process became easier for foreign students.
Education Minister said a big thing
According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the country is now regaining its historical role as a global education hub. As ancient institutions like Takshashila and Nalanda were its symbol. Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, India is promoting research collaboration and strengthening academic exchanges by adopting global standards in the field of education.
