‘India cannot compromise on even an inch of land on its border’, PM Modi told soldiers on Diwali

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that India cannot compromise on even an inch of land on its border and people have faith in the strength of its army to protect the country.

Modi was addressing the soldiers after celebrating Diwali with them in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Modi said, ‘‘Today India cannot compromise on even an inch of its borders. That is why our policies are in line with the resolve of our armed forces.’’

He said, ‘‘We trust the determination of our soldiers, not the words of the enemies.’’

Modi said that the people of India feel that their country is safe because of you (soldiers). Modi told the soldiers, ‘‘When the world looks at you, it sees the strength of India, but when the enemies look at you, they see the end of their nefarious conspiracies.’’

Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated the ‘Statue of Unity&rsquo in Gujarat on the birth anniversary of the country’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. But paid tribute by offering flowers. Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary has been celebrated as ‘National Unity Day&rsquo since 2014 on 31 October. It is celebrated as. 

PM Modi reached the world’s tallest statue dedicated to Patel near Ekta Nagar in the Narmada district of the state on Thursday morning and offered flowers to pay tribute to the Iron Man of India.  After this he participated in administering the Unity Day oath and the National Unity Day parade programme. The parade included 16 marching contingents, which included police from nine states, one Union Territory, four Central Armed Police Forces, the National Cadet Corps and a band.
